Our Love Story
*
Our Love Story *
From the Bay to Los Angeles & all around the world
It all began in San Francisco—where we fell in love. One of us had just finished the first year of medical school, the other working in tech in the busy tech-hub of San Francisco. We quickly knew - from laughing endlessly and talking all night - sparks flew - our love would last a lifetime. In the early days of our love, Nick showed Nivedita his San Francisco — from walks in Golden Gate park, going to see Cirque du Soleil, to baking sourdough bread on foggy mornings. We rode through the Marin headlands on Nick’s motorcycle, chased the heat at fiery Szechuan restaurants, sipped Japanese whiskey in tucked-away bars, and once even brought home a live crab from Chinatown to cook together, laughing the whole way through. Over almost 6 years time, those dreams and love for each other only grew deeper—one of us becoming a doctor, the other founding a company. Side by side, we’ve weathered long hospital nights, startup sprints, and life’s quiet in-betweens.
Six years in, we’ve traveled to over 15 countries and counting (5 more to go to this year!). From the ancient streets of Cairo to the bustling street lights of Hong Kong to the beaches of Trinidad, we’ve shared meals under stars, gotten lost in cities, and danced at more weddings than we can count—each celebration a reminder of the love and community we are lucky to be part of. We are lucky to have visited India together many times now - to share in the vibrancy and culture of Nivedita’s heritage and extended family.
We’ve built a life grounded in laughter, support, and purpose. Surrounded by loving family and lifelong friends, we cherish making dinner together, hosting parties, trying out every new restaurant, dancing at all times of the day, and conversations just about everything. We’ve created a home together now for over 3 years in Silverlake, Los Angeles and our home is always stocked with ice cream and of course, chili oil.
We hold space for each other’s dreams, and believe fiercely in doing good—with our work, our love, and our time here together. We are endlessly in love, and even more incredibly loved. Our journey is one of mutual support, deep joy, and the simple, sacred act of showing up for each other, every day.
We can’t wait to see more of the world together—and maybe, in some small way, help change it for the better. We’re so grateful to be sharing our special day(s) with all of you.
Getting There
We are so lucky to have friends and family literally in every corner of the world. We are so grateful that you are able to make the journey to Oahu, Hawai’i for our wedding. It truly means so much to us.
Honolulu has Hawai’i’s major international airport, Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, HNL - please fly into this airport.
We strongly advise people to stay in Waikīkī as many of our events will be based in and around Waikiki.
Pro-tip on flight purchasing: There are many non-stop flights from LAX and SFO that are relatively affordable (~300 USD roundtrip), so if you can try to connect to LAX or SFO in some way - you will make it to this beautiful island
Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions. And, Nivedita’s past time is finding flight deals and knowing about airplanes, travel routes, etc… so will happily help plan your trip.
We recommend people come in on November 19th and encourage people to stay until the evening of November 23rd

FAQs

Duh, WE LOVE HAWAI’I! When Nivedita was in medical school, she did a rotation at the University of Hawai’i - so we were able to live in Honolulu for over a month and fell in love with the culture, environment, lifestyle, and vibe. Since that - we have had our dear friends living in Hawai’i and we have probably been there at least 7 times in the last 3 years. It is one of our favorite places in the world - we love being in the ocean, listening to the ukelele, relaxing to the sunset, and eating fresh poke. We hope you all will fall in love with Hawai’i just as much as we have!!
-
We recommend people come in on November 19th (the day before the Sangeet) and can plan to leave November 23rd in the evening (after the mass) or on the 24th. Please fly into HNL airport and please try to book with our room blocks a place in Waikiki or somewhere to stay in Waikiki

We created a style and outfit guide just for this question, check it out here
Indian clothes preferred but western wear is welcome, too. :)
On the day of the Sangeet and Mehendi - please wear vibrant, Indian clothing. There will be lots of dancing so do recommend something you can move in, as well. The following day of the wedding, please wear Indian formal clothes - which are saris, lehengas, kurtas, sherwanis. And no red please as the bride will be wearing red.
The optional event of the boat cruise - just wear your best island clothing- such as maxi dresses, tropical motifs, and Hawaiian shirts.
For the optional event of the mass - respectful clothes will be great
You’re gonna look amazing, we are sure of it!! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to either of us (probably Nivedita may be more helpful for the clothes department, but Nick will love whatever you wear too!! )

If you live in an urban metropolitan city, as many of you do (or near to one) there are usually Indian, ethnic enclaves who sell Indian clothes - which we recommend you go check out to try on outfits. Indian blouses for women can be tricky, so do recommend knowing your size, well.
Also, can try online:
Indian stores in the following areas in the US & some major cities around the world some of our guests will be traveling from…
In LA: Little India in Artesia
In SF: Fremont, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara all have Indian clothing stores
In Chicago: Devon Avenue (Little India)
In D.C.: NoVa in Herndon, Fairfax, and Chantilly have indian stores

Fun!! Well, we are doing a hybrid wedding. But, yes the Sangeet and Mehendi is basically a huge party and also the opportunity to get some henna done, too. Lots of dancing and delicious food. The wedding will be a Hindu ceremony followed by a reception. We would love the ceremony to be sacred and romantic followed by of course, another big dance party!
Basically bring your excitement and outfits and get ready to laugh, dance, drink, and eat!
-
It’s pretty much always perfect in paradise! But, usually around 70-76F and 21-23C. Of course on an island there may be some tropical rainfall, etc.. so be prepared for that, as well.
-
Yes, of course! For the Sangeet, our dear friend - Dr. Sujata Dahal has choreographed some dances and our friends and family will be divided into groups to do these dances.
And we know people don’t fit into these groups exactly as we are lucky to have friends from many points in our lives - but we will likely let you know which group you will be apart of! Everything is just for fun so no need to worry!!
We will send out an instructional dance video closer to the wedding date.

No need to - if you’re staying in Waikiki. Waikiki is pretty accessible by foot and can walk everywhere! The Royal Hawaiian is within walking distance of anything in Waikiki and we will be arranging buses from Waikiki to Kualoa Ranch on the day of the wedding. The boat ride and church on the following days are all within Waikiki or a short uber drive away too!
-
Well us - obviously! We would love to help you plan and figure out your trip. If you’re planning on visiting other islands before or afterwards - we have lots of recommendations, too! We’ve been to most of the islands, so we have thoughts.
Questions.
Do you want to run your outfits by us? Do you want to tell us how excited you are? Do you love our website - lol lol - Nick was determined to build our own website, so here is the final product. (The UC Berkeley Computer Science and Electrical Engineering degree being put to use!) Anyway, whatever it is - please don’t hesitate to reach out to us, or even the parentals (Dr. Rita Kar & Dr. Samir Kar or Mrs. Dueber & Mr. Dueber) - we’re all here to help!
